If you are looking for a lovely, contemporary romance with a gutsy, smart heroine (she's beautiful, of course, but more attention is paid to her strength of character than her looks which is a nice change) and an unusual hero as well (yes, he's sexy and handsome, but he's not bitter from an ex-wife or girlfriend or a grieving widower and he's a case of a nice guy who finishes first).

Another really nice thing about this story is its exceptionally fine imagery and descriptive writing. I've never been to the part of Canada that is the setting for the story, but I feel like I've now seen pictures of it and they are very beautiful. Donna Alward is truly a gifted writer. The editing is also very well done which makes this story a joy to read as I HATE having my reading interrupted by mistakes that should have been caught before publishing.

If you're bothered by offensive language or explicit sexual scenes, have no fear because you don't have anything to worry about in this story!! This is a LOVE story that is all about ROMANCE!!! This book could be enjoyed by teenagers but I'm over 60 and I found it a very nice way to spend a couple of hours and if you are looking for a good contemporary romance, then I'd definitely recommend that you'd buy this one. Conner Madsen is in danger of losing his ranch that has been in his family for generations and is in need of his trust fund. The problem is, he would have to wait until his 30th birthday or he would have to wed. But who would he get to agree to marry him in such short notice and who would agree to such a thing.

Alexis Grayson (Alex) is pregnant and the father of her unborn child ditched her as soon as he found out that she was expecting. Now Alex is living with a friend of a friend, sleeping on the floor and working at a bar unsure of how she will provide for her unborn child.

Helping Alex after she faints in public, Conner learns that she is pregnant and alone. Conner offers to take care of her and her unborn child and will give her a place to stay until the baby is born in exchange for marriage. Alex agrees, but it wasn't as easy as they both thought. They both start to have feelings for one another but stubbornness and pride get in the way of their happiness and they feel that the other doesn't feel the same way.

I have to admit that I'm not a cowboy story fan and I only got this book because of the high ratings and it was free. I'm SOOO glad I did! I truly enjoyed this story! It was a unique love story. Connor was such a gentleman and a loveable character. Donna Alward did a great job with Hired by the Cowboy. I WOULD DEFINITYELY RECOMMEND!!
Two hurting souls find each other and fall in love. Alex is a beautiful strong woman who has suffered a lot in her young life. Connor is a handsome gentleman with a strong sense of family. I fell in love with both Alex and Connor. I was so happy when they finally admitted that they loved and needed each other. However, I do wish the author had told us more about Connor and Alex’s past.
Here are my thoughts...

The story was cute, I liked both Alexis and Conner (Grandma, too). Those are the only people we get to meet in the book.

I missed some interaction between other characters to make the story more "real" - Who were the people that came to the wedding, who was Grandma's best friend, What is Mark like...

I would let my 13 year old niece read it without a question, but would i suggest the book to my romance junkie friends probably not.
I really enjoyed reading this book about Windover Ranch with Alex & Connor. It's starts off with Alex fainting on the street outside of a convince store, luckily Connor was standing near her, and caught her before she was kissing the pavement. It seems she was seeing stars, and when ever she bent forward she would start to black out. Connor suggested she might want to sit before she started moving again, she sat on the bench, and leaned forward and dropped her bag and everything fell out. He leaned over and picked everything up, when he noticed the pre-natal vitamins, and said do you need another apple juice so you can bring your sugar levels up? She said no, I think sitting here for a few moments might help, thank you for catching me before I hit the pavement, your welcome. He took her for tea, peppermint to settle her stomach and bought her a biscotti biscuit as well. They got to talking and he found out that she worked for the Higgly-Piggly Bar, and didn't live far from where she fainted. He told her he was a Rancher from two hours away and was in town to see his banker and his Grandmother. They parted ways, but before he left he handed her his business card, and told her to call if she ever needed anything. Then he went to see his Grandmother, and tried to get her to give him his trust fund early, and she said the stipulation was when he turned 30 or until he had a wife. But the ranch sorely needs the cash influx now, other wise we will surely go under with this cow crisis going on. She told him if he had prospects of a wife then he could get his trust fund, but short of that he was doomed. On his way home, he thought of Alex all along, maybe they could each help each other out, like a pre-arranged marriage of convince. He whipped the truck around, headed straight for the bar looking for Alex. Read this book, because it will make you laugh and cry. It was a very heart warming story and one that won't disappoint. Enjoy reading it!
