After surviving the ravages of the Holocaust, Jacob Rosenberg recounts how he and Esther met at a displaced person's camp in Italy. The two young people, sole representatives of their murdered families, marry and are accepted for resettlement in Australia. But how do you go on living in a place full of sunlight after such darkness? How do you get to work when a train can put you into a horrific memory of the death trains to the camps? The ghost of his mother at the end appears at a time of hope in his life. What she says can only be imagined, and one gets the sense that it is too precious a moment to tell everyone about. The book is necessarily different from the first, East of Time, because it deals with the difficult and rewarding subject of how you live after being surrounded by death, after losing everyone you grew up with, after nearly dying. Walk with Jacob Rosenberg through this courageous story of loss, redemption, fear and love, near-madness and hope.

Sunrise West Jacob G Rosenberg 9781459677333 Books Reviews
Having read East Of Time and thoroughly enjoyed it I decided to purchase a copy of its sequel Sunrise West, to say I am disappointd is not an exaggeration. It lacks the punch of East Of Time, and the ending, to say the least left me feeling it was missing a few pages, the last paragraph following the birth of his daughter ends, She (his murdered mother), sat down on the edge of the bed and, folding her hands, spoke.
