The novel features Ogden Ford and his mother Nesta (both previously encountered in The Little Nugget (1913)). Nesta has remarried, to the hen-pecked, baseball-loving millionaire Mr. Peter Pett, and Ogden remains spoilt and obnoxious. The story takes its title from the charismatic character of Jimmy Crocker, Nesta's nephew and a reforming playboy. 'Jim' is called upon to assist in the kidnapping of Ogden, amongst much confusion involving imposters, crooks, detectives, butlers, aunts etc. - all in the name of romance of course.

Very early work. Starts slow. Will reward the devotee, though others should select a more famous volume. After a chapter or two it becomes quite lively, with of course an infinity of style and wit, as who would not expect? Flags, in various spots, requiring a bit of commitment, but then there are unusual features I will not spoil, including some light philosophizing, a character who experiences actual remorse and growth (not among the standard tropes), Sisters on the Warpath, an explosives expert, and an aspirational American millionairess of the Vodeuseian- battleaxe type, who has been perfecting her Grosvenor Square persona: mastering an expression of glacial indifference and waiting for the right moment to deploy a scathing,"Quite extraordinary!" The persistent reader is rewarded with a satisfying send off. Interesting to compare with the places PG went to from here. This was apparently a labor of love by some anonymous textual restorers, bringing us a breath of sea air and gaiety circa, say,1912. Well done!Product details

Piccadilly Jim P G Wodehouse Books Reviews
Words too tiny, smooshed on to too small a page copied from another book and hastily bound together in a paperback format much too small to accommodate the actual text. I reported this stealing from another boo and copying it into this unreadable format to the people at . Such sellers should be banned from this market, as what they did was to destroy the words and hope people wouldn't complain. Well I am complaining. Bad Form, Seller and !
PICCADILLY JIM is very early P.G. Wodehouse, first published in 1913. Parts of it are hilariously funny, and the “Jim posing as someone else posing as Jim” scenes are very, very clever. Still, I missed Jeeves, my favorite character in Wodehouse's stories … even though there was a fake butler who filled in for him.
This particular edition has a companion Audible book, featuring "WhisperSync" which allows the reader to switch back and forth between listening to and reading the novel without losing one's place. I mostly listened to it during my commute. The Audible portion is read by Frederick Davidson, who is my favorite narrator, and who is perfectly suited for reading Wodehouse.
Three and a half stars for a clever novel, and five for the excellent narration. I highly recommend this edition.
At the time I purchased this kindle book I also bought the linked audio book thinking I was purchasing the Martin Jarvis narrated version. What I got was the Frederick Davidson version. I would be more upset but looking into it I find that the Martin Jarvis version is actually abridged while the Frederick Davidson version is genuinely unabridged. I'm still annoyed by the bait and switch tactics used by in this case.
Wodehouse is always wonderful in my opinion. Piccadilly Jim is not as hilarious as the Jeeves books but it is still fun and funny. Definitely worth a read.
has made changes to this page so it links to the Frederick Davidson narrated book at least, although it is no longer clear if the audio book will be discounted if you buy the kindle version. The kindle plus audio book pages for Wodehouse books have been a mess. I hope is fixing them. Wodehouse deserves better support from .
I have run into other incidences where it looks like I'm buying one version of an audio book when I buy the kindle book only to have a different and less desirable version of the audio book substituted for the one I thought I was getting. It has happened too many times to be accidental. I no longer purchase audio books with their kindle counterpart. I buy the kindle book and then check the page for the audio book version I am interested in. If there are multiple versions of an audio book this seems to be the only way you can find out what you are getting before you buy it. I'm very sad that has become untrustworthy in this. It seems very petty of them.
I am an avid fan of PG Wodehouse and have read every one of his 99 (yep, 99) books. His stories are simple enough but the magic is in the humor, the marvelous similes, and the exquisite, creative use of the English language which all add up to pure entertainment and which leave one breathless in admiration. A testimony to Wodehouse's popularity and the awe in which he is held by readers all over the world is the fact that 40 years after his death there is a flourishing P.G Wodehouse Society America, and many others in countries all over the world, even in Japan,
Granted, Wodehouse's early novels are not quite up to the quality of his later works, but from all of them he earned the reputation of being the 20th century's greatest writer of the English language. If I were teaching English anywhere in the country I would make PG Wodehouse compulsory reading for my students.
Piccadilly Jim is entertaining from page one. I can't help but quote the first paragraph of chapter 2
"London brooded under a grey sky. There had been rain in the night and the trees were still dripping. Presently, however, there appeared in the leaden haze a watery patch of blue, and through this crevice in the clouds the sun, diffidently at first but with gradually increasing confidence, peeped down on the fashionable and exclusive turf of Grosvenor Square. Stealing across the square its rays reached the massive stone walls of Drexdale House, until recently the London residence of he earl of that name; then passing through the window of the breakfast room, played lightly on the partially bald head of Mr. Bingly Crocker, late of New York, of the United States of America as he bent over his morning paper. Mrs. Bingly Crocker, busy across the table reading her mail, the rays did not touch. Had they done so she would have rung for Bayliss the butler to come and lower the shade, for she endured liberties neither from man nor from nature."
Need I say more? PG Wodehouse's descriptive power at its best.
Very early work. Starts slow. Will reward the devotee, though others should select a more famous volume.
